The Prosper Fire Department was formed in 1952 to provide basic emergency response to the citizens of Prosper. Since that time the department has experienced incredible growth and technological advances. From the early days of an all volunteer department we have grown to a combination department employing 1 Chief, 1 Full-time Fire Marshal, 18 Full-time Fire Fighter / Paramedics and 10 volunteer members, many of whom are full time Fire Fighter / Paramedics with other area fire departments.
Currently the department operates 3 Class A pumpers (a 2003 Pierce Enforcer, a 1997 Pierce Commercial Chassis, and a 1985 American La France Commercial Chassis), 2 Wild Land fire fighting vehicles (a 2008 WEIS Quick Attack 500, and a 1993 Ford F350 with Mertz compressed air foam skid unit), 2 ambulances (two 2002 Frazier Bilt / Chevrolet C3500's) and a utility / command vehicle (a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe). The department has in service six Bullard thermal imaging cameras on apparatus that respond to structure fires, enabling us to more quickly search a burning building for survivors. Physio-Control Life Pak-12 monitor / defibrillators, representing the latest technological advances in field medicine, are in use on Medic 1, Medic 2 and Engine 1. These tools allow us to provide the best fire suppression and medical services possible to the citizens of Prosper.
The department utilizes the Collin County and City of Plano 800 MHz trunked radio systems for communications. Please visit the other areas of our web site to find out more about our department.
